If you are constantly walking into stacks in “3” person, when you are in the T and C, you probably are not starting out being side line oriented and being in staggered stances. Staggered Stances will help you with having quick feet and quick eyes. When you are watching tape, look at your positioning. If you have good positioning, your play-calling will get better and better. In the Lead, at times officials get to tight , when the ball is on the Lead’s side. Remember in the Lead, you want to officiate as many players as possible in your PCA. Half Time is 10 minutes. The officiating crew has to get to the floor at 3 minutes. That means, there is about 5-6 minutes to talk about situations in the 1st Half. The question is, what does the crew talk about?
Some Ideas: 1. How is the crew communication. 2. Have there been any formal or informal warnings. 3. How is the crew’s consistency. 4. Are there any atypical plays. 5. Post Play 6. Perimeter Play 7. Team tendencies and Player tendencies. 8. Adjustments 9. Table Personnel. 10. Overtime Procedures- Go over now, so we don’t have to do it to start the OT Period. 11. Alternating Possession Arrow. 12. Yes-No All scenarios the answer is Yes- Review Rule-5- 2a-Note If you want to improve your rules knowledge, try writing out sections of the rules code in long hand. Studies have shown taking copious notes helps improve retention of the material. Also, a 20008 study published in the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience found adults have an easier time recognizing new information written by hand over characters generated by a computer.
