Take a look at this play involving the defender black #22 and the player with the ball white #3. Does the defender obtain and maintain legal guarding position? Does the offensive player with the ball extend his non-dribbling arm and make contact with a legal defender? What could the Trail have done to put himself in a better position to see space between this matchup?
Watch closely as black #5 holds gray #5 arm as he attempts to drive to the basket. The trail referee stays connected as the play goes away from him. This fool the referee play does not fool the interpreter! Is this marginal contact by the offense or a player control foul? On this transition B-C play the trail to lead official does a great job hustling back to the end line to accept the play. The defender never establishes legal guarding position and the official correctly calls a blocking foul. |
