Great call by the trail. I love how it was a late whistle
My observation is the whistle official was way out of position. Yes, it was the right call, but in a 3-man crew, the C (who made the call) was never in the right position. He should have been free-throw line extended. He never even made it past the 3-point arch extended. In addition, it looks like he's ending a ten-second count from the backcourt (which he never should have had in the first place...always the Trail's chop) and goes right into TWO 5 second count (the 2nd coming after a pass off), ALL with the same hand.
Not sure what the Lead is doing. He would have been in the perfect position to make the call if he stayed discipline by initially closing down the lane then backing back out as the ballside came that direction. Instead, he forces 2 rotations in less than 3 seconds and is in motion WITH HIS BACK TO THE BASKET when the whistle blows on a pretty basic play.
Ultimately, the right call was made. However, both L and C are out of position and moving at the time of the contact. Not sure how this play is being implied as staying "engaged" when both are out of position and proper mechanics are being ignored with 3 man.
Unless this is a 2 man crew (possible because I never see the trail official in the video), positioning is terrible. Now, if it's a 2 man crew, the Trail did everything PERFECTLY besides mechanics of 3 continuous chops with the same hand. If that's the case, not sure what the Lead is doing still. Trying to rotate to get a better look with the ball barely crossing the top of the arch on the opposite side? Not good.
