- National High School Federation Rules will govern all MAC games.
II. Special Rules
A. It is recommended that an adult serve as official timer for varsity games.
B. The home team will wear light uniforms and the visiting team will wear dark uniforms.
C. The Home team provides 6 quality basketballs for the visiting teams. This includes JV.
D. Fans are not allowed on the baseline of the basketball court while being a spectator during a game.
E. There will be a 30 second shot clock for varsity and JV games
F. The 5-second closely guarded count will no longer be in effect during a dribble in the frontcourt. Once the ball is picked up in the frontcourt the 5-second closely guarded rule will start if a defender is within 6 feet, the defender can switch and if the new defender stays within the 6 feet the count continues.
G. Kickball- The clock is reset at 15 seconds when the ball is intentionally kicked with 15 or less left in possession. The shot clock is not is not reset when the ball is intentionally kicked with 15 seconds or more left in the possession.
H. The 10-second count will begin when any player legally touches the ball in the backcourt, except during a jump ball or rebound. During a jump ball or rebound, the 10 –second count begins when a team gains control in its backcourt. The officials will use the 30-second shot as their guide to determine when a 10-second violation has occurred. The officials will no longer visibly count 10 seconds, except when the shot clock is off (i.e. the possession has started with less than 30 seconds).
The 10-second backcourt count will be reset on all stoppages of play except after; the defense causes the ball to go out of bounds, a held ball when the offense retains possession, a time-out by the defense subsequent to a held ball with the offense retaining control or the defense causing the ball to be out of bounds. (Essentially, this gives the defense a chance to call time-out to plan a press without resetting the 10-second count)
J. Dunking is allowed in warm ups.
K. When there is a 30 point lead, we will move to a “running clock” and shut off the shot clock. If the lead goes below 30 points, regular time resets.
L. There are NO noise-makers allowed in indoor sports. Pep bands can play only on dead ball situations only!
