1. A player who has been replaced by a substitute becomes bench personnel once they leave the court.
 
2. A substitute becomes a player when the substitute legally enters the court. If the entry is not legal, when does the substitute become a player?
 
3. With 0.3 seconds remaining, Team A has a throw-in on the end line in its frontcourt. A2 legally taps the throw-in toward Team A’s basket and is fouled by B3. The ball left A2’s hand and the foul occurred before the end-of-period signal. The tap is unsuccessful. Officials rule that A2 is awarded two free throws with the lane spaces cleared.
 
4. With 0.3 seconds remaining, Team A has a throw-in on the end line in its frontcourt. A2 catches the ball and quickly attempts a try for goal. B3 fouls A2 during the attempt before the end-of-period signal, and the ball enters Team A’s basket. Officials cancel the goal.
 
5. Following Q4, officials cancel B3’s foul.
 
 
 
Answers:
1. False. The player becomes bench personnel only after the substitute legally becomes a player, or when the coach is notified of the player’s disqualification. (3-3-3)
2. When the ball becomes live. (3-3-3)
3. True. The period ends after A2’s free throw attempts. (C.B. 5.2.5 Situation B)
4. True. With 0.3 seconds or less, a player may only tap for goal, since A5 caught the ball first, the goal cannot count. (5-2-5) 
5. False. The foul still counts as a common foul. If Team A is in a bonus. A5 is awarded bonus free throws with cleared lane spaces. (4-41-6, 5.2.5 Situation C)
